麥克阿瑟為子祈禱文
主阿! 教導我兒子在軟弱時能夠堅強不屈.
在懼怕時能夠勇敢自持, 在誠實的失敗中毫不氣餒, 在光明的勝利中仍保持謙遜溫和.
教導我兒子篤實力行而不從事空想.
使他認識祢同時也認識他自己, 這才是一切知識的開端.
我祈求祢不要將他引上逸樂之途, 而將他至於困難及挑戰磨練與刺激之下,
使他學習在風暴中站起來.而又由此學著同情那些跌倒的人.
求祢讓他有一顆純潔的心, 一個高尚的目標.
在學習指揮別人之前先學會自制, 在邁向未來之時而不遺忘過去.
主! 在他有了這些美德之後, 我還要祈求祢, 賜給他充分的幽默感以免過於嚴肅.
賜給他謙虛使他永遠記著, 真正的偉大是單純, 真正的智慧是坦率, 真正的力量是溫和.
然後作為一個父親的我才敢輕聲的說:"我總算這輩子沒有白活"

請陶冶我的兒子,使他的心地純潔,目標高超;
在企圖駕馭他人之前, 先能駕馭自己; 對未來善加籌畫, 但是永不忘記過去.
在他把以上諸點都已做到後, 還請賜給他充分的幽默感,
使他可以永遠保持嚴肅的態度, 旦絕不自視非凡, 過於拘執.
請賜給他謙遜, 使他可以永遠記住真實偉大的樸實無華,
真實的虛懷若谷和真實力量的溫和蘊藉.

A Father's Prayer
Build me a son, O Lord, who will be strong enough to know when he is weak, and brave enough to face himself when he is afraid; one who will be proud and unbending in honest defeat, and humble and gentle in victory.
Build me a son whose wishbone will not be where his backbone should be; a son who will know Thee and that to know himself is the foundation stone of knowledge.
Lead him I pray, not in the path of ease and comfort, but under the stress and spur of difficulties and challenge. Here let him learn to stand up in the storm; here let him learn compassion for those who fail.
Build me a son whose heart will be clear, whose goal will be high; a son who will master himself before he seeks to master other men; one who will learn to laugh, yet never forget how to weep; one who will reach into the future, yet never forget the past.
And after all these things are his, add, I pray, enough of a sense of humor, so that he may always be serious, yet never take himself too seriously. Give him humility, so that he may always remember the simplicity of true greatness, the open mind of true wisdom, the meekness of true strength.
Then, I, his father, will dare to whisper, have not lived in vain.
作者介紹：麥克阿瑟將軍（General Douglas MacArthur, 1880-1964）生於 1880 年美國堪薩司州的一個陸軍軍營中，他的父親因參加南北戰爭曾獲國會勳章，菲律賓群島首任軍事總督。1903 年麥克阿瑟以第一名姿態畢業於美國西點軍校，他的畢業成績是西點軍校創辦一百年來最好的。麥克阿瑟將軍曾出任美國太平洋戰區總司令，在二次世界大戰時迫使日本全面投降，並在盟軍控制的日本，擔任軍事總督。
